A brief history of the discussion -- 1993 to 2000
1993
- Mcdonald and Wood (1993), recognizing an absence of empirical research in the field set the bar of empirical study for this subject matter and the basis of future scholarly dialogue with the publication of their 1993 study of adult education practitioners’ opinions of a code of ethics.
- Tackling the financial aspect of ethics, Rose (1996) examined how education funding is controlling the agenda of adult learning and “marginalizing” (p. 1) ethical considerations such as the learning needs of a community.
- Debating the arguments for and against a code of ethics, Siegel (2000) proposes supported list of “suggested objectives for a universal code of ethics” (p. 49).
